You should check out Aphex Twin. Thom took inspiration from them while deciding what to do next after OK Computer (I’m pretty sure) and was inspired by what he heard to make KID A and Amnesiac. Aphex Twin’s got some really great electronic music/IDM.
@crab50_musicwhile I no doubt believe that Thom is a fan of Aphex Twin (and other various pseudonyms used by Richard D James), I find it hard to believe he wasn’t aware of Aphex Twin until 1997 or 1998.
At minimum, he would’ve heard come to daddy from their 1995 release “ I care because you do”
IIRC the “Mild un Leise” part on the track was recreated using a DX7-like synth, given that the original song was also an early example of FM synthesis. The track as a whole is also clearly inspired by the Autechre’s “Basscadet (Bcdtmx)” in tone and structure.
That’s crazy. The second sample is a truly spine-tingling, critical piece of Idioteque. Ironically, for being a sample from early-era electronic music, it gives the song its humanity and warmth.
didn’t know but it all makes sense, interesting influence, also of Kid A
Sun Ra vibe
I had _no idea_ these were samples, and their alt rock and electronic music have both inspired me.

@_devolve You’re reacting to something he never said
ARE YOU EXCITED FOR THE TOUR DAVID
I would be! But I couldn’t get tickets 😢
@DavidBennettPianoomg that’s horrible, I can really tell how much you like them
Also some of the drums are samples of white noise
everything’s a sample of white noise if you try hard enough
@certifiededgelord Yeah, even pedantry. 😉
Pretty sure they made them themselves with analog synthesizers
the drums were synthesized by jonny himself by manipulating a sine wave
@certifiededgelordnot really
This was the highlight of the Madrid show the other day. And Everything in its Right Place.
Wow didnt know that
Did the Transformers sample this song as well for their transformations
very old school and warm sounds on those. also lol i thought he woulda produced that stuff! cool to know the samples
It’s rare that I watch a ‘did you know’ video that ends up being about something I didn’t know. But I actually didn’t know this. Nice.
Damn. You must know damn near everything, huh?
Paul Lansky made something beautiful

Flippin gr8 samples
ICE AGE COMING ICE AGE COMING!!!!
Wowzers! Never knew that
I LOVE that song so much! ❤❤❤ never knew they sampled those two pieces! I just assumed it was Jonny Greenwood messing around.
That’s cool that Lansky was okay with them sampling his music. It makes his music live on and find new audiences.

ICE AGE COMING ICE AGE COMING
Damn, that’s like the whole song
