Find Gabi on Instagram:
I've known Gabi given that we were teenagers and it's been fantastic to see her career unfold! Shes played with The 1975, Declan McKenna, Bastille, Olly Alexander, Perrie of Little Mix just to name a few! So it was excellent to sit down and discuss her experiences having fun with some of the biggest British acts around and to hear what recommendations she had to offer to striving musicians!

My god… David’s got a lower half to his body
😂
Nah, it’s all AI generated, to disguise the fact that he is just a head and torso floating around the place.
Literally saw her playing with Bastille on Friday, what a pro!

I don’t have a background in music school but in engineering and science.
What you guys were saying around 6:05 applies to a lot of other fields.
It’s all the extras that not only make you better in what you do, but also get better connections. We had exactly the same, people who just did their homework, followed lessons and got pretty good grades.
Now being in the field myself for almost 20 years, I would never hire these people, but the people who put sincere extra time and effort in all these other things.
Great motivational talk 👍🏻👍🏻😎
Interesting!!
Very interesting video and questions…so useful when you wonder how session musicians get jobs ! Thanks for asking what I was exactly wondering the whole time !
Glad it was helpful!!
This video is such a cool crossover for me, since I’ve been watching your videos for years and also following Gabi on IG since I discovered Declan’s music back in 2017. I love her playing on Declan’s tracks. It’s consistent, powerful and she’s got chops if the situation comes for her to use them.
Oddly enough, I’ve never met anyone here in Brazil who’s heard of Declan (or Gabi, for that matter), apart from the friends to whom I showed his music. Your channel, on the other hand, David, has been the subject of a couple conversations I’ve had. I remember one time someone talked about your Beatles challenges videos and we started watching them and playing along.
Such a cool interview, where once again I hear a session musician talking about how being a nice person is as important as being a good musician in order to work in this business. And also nice to see you trying new formats for the channel!
Fantastic ❤
Drummers are incredible in general. I can’t even get two hands working at the same time let alone all 4 limbs. These gals making a career out of it and absolutely killing it on stage all the time are all the more amazing.
❤❤
Bullshit
Huh?
gabi jumpscare! we love gabi! she brought such good energy on tour, i loved watching her at 75 shows!
❤❤
Now David is doing interviews too? Watch out, Rick Beato.
Im 17 and session musician is one of my dream jobs, so thanks a lot for this video!
Awesome! So glad it was helpful!
So basically, be good, be cool, know cool people!
I was friends (holiday friends) with a guy who went on to be a session musician with some of the biggest bands in the world, headlining Glastonbury, playing on late night talk shows, touring stadiums around the world, etc. and I think it was all down to the 3 rules above.
Say yes to everything is without any doubt the best advice you can give a young person no matter what field they are going into, you never know what is behind the door until you open it.
