Thank you!
I got so frustrated that I put it down for a long time. I am 64 years old man. I used to play trumpet and French horn and have a music degrees in performance music. I am slow to start my violin again. š¢
Hang in there. Iāll bet Alison can help you.
Good advice
This is what I needed to hear. Iām one of those that wants to be great now. I struggle so much with my left hand that I put my violin down for a long time. Iām going to try your course with this in mind!
Thank u so much for you’re tips mam ā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤
My last violin teacher needs to hear this. She frustrated me because she didn’t want to take the time to go over the basics. Now I teach myself. No more Suzuki method.
Might you have had the wrong teacher? Iām 15 months in, on my third teacher. This oneās a keeper. Maybe try another?
Correct⤠so true about taking it slow!! I go over and over things I have learnt. Regular practice and procisseness. What’s the point in rushing, if what you are playing is not good. No rush! Get the basics right….Good foundation etc. Best to play a couple of pieces well than playing a dozen pieces poor. Well said Alisonš
Definitely feel this. I find myself frustrated by not being able to play the pieces I want to, but I know it’s important to take it slow. Thanks for the video!
Oh, indeed. Many times, I’ve just picked up my violin and started trying to figure out songs by ear, but I quickly start struggling to transition to adjacent strings, especially by not moving the bow enough or moving it too far, hitting the wrong strings with it even if my fingers are in the right place, etc. So, I stop immediately and go back to practicing scales, bow movements, etc. I really just need to go back to the beginning to follow an established progression through the basics, and I reckon now is as good a time as any to restart the journey. Thank you. š
AH HA!!! I am an adult learner and I literally never got past the basic open strings…. I got discouraged and sad and gave up. I might be the problem….
Donāt give up! Iām 73 years old, and going for it my second time. Find a teacher who encourages you, and has patience.
I donāt hate scales, really. I do like arpeggios more. Now Iām learning trills. Whew.
Lol so true. With any instrument this applies. Iām 57 now and finally am diving into violin studies. I say that because oddly enough i was 8 years old when i heard a string quartet play for our class and the violinist absolutely captivated me and brought me into a life of music studies. Unfortunately, or fortunately i would come to realize later, instead of getting to study violin i was cast into piano lessons because my family had acquired an upright. Long story short that gave me priceless tools that would enable me to play many instruments instruments, guitar as my main, but the same theory applies, maybe even more so because its so easy to jump ahead of myself and instead of mastering each i found myself many times just being becoming mediocre at some for that very reasonā¦.instead mastering basics which is ultimately the key every musician needs to remember when taken new instruments. Because we already have the ability to play music. So focusing on basic skills of any instrument pays off in the end. And yes with all that said im finally fulfilling a childhood dream violin and then i think cello if goes well. By the i think you are amazing. Thank you.
