A jazzy song and brilliant collaboration between Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada.

The melody should be singing D natural at around 2:02, but when I arranged this for I heard a D sharp instead (perhaps because of the B major chord played by the ). You can call it a happy accident []~( ̄▽ ̄)~*

At 2:14, when the strings bellow out the high D and clash with the B major chord, it reminds me of Radiohead's song "Spectre".

The piano accompaniment is not too difficult, but it is tricky when also playing the melody. It requires some creative fingering work.

  1. I haven’t even heard the original and this man just whips it out like instant noodles what-

    Finger snap is back!

  2. 最初のハミングとか「どこにいるの(ここにいるよ)」のここにいるよとかのメロディ入れてる採譜は他にない…好きです!!

    1. Animenz’s piano covers have many arrangements.
In comparison, Halcyon music’s piano covers have been arranged but are relatively close to the originals.
Choosing completely is a matter of preference.

  3. I finally figured out the reason why this song caught me off guard in the theater, I jammed on it, but I also almost cried hearing it: because this is like, your coffee shop piano melody, but make it angsty.
    Get it?
    Reze and coffee?
Also, cus coffee is bitter but it makes our heart pounding and it keeps us awake and we can’t help but craving for more, when we’re low? Yknow, like Reze too.

    😭

Amazing arrangement btw, thank you so much! ❤❤😭

    1. Also, I love/hate the fact that they finally use perfect cadence(?) for this type of melody. Like, usually, this type of coffee-shop-jazz(?) melody ends with imperfect cadence; like you’re left wondering.
I love that this song uses perfect cadence; it just feels right for my ear, like finally, it feels complete. Like it has come full circle. But. I hate the idea that Kenshi Yonezu decided to use perfect cadence to illustrate Reze’s final moment. Like, we’re not given the chance to ponder about her whereabouts any more (with imperfect cadence). No. She’s gone now. We will never see her again. It’s over (just like perfect cadence).
      😂😭💔

    2. @bxnkaiiThe song itself is nothing crazy if it’s taken out of context. Just another beautiful song. But I feel like if we dissect the music theory & the lyrics one by one, it’s literally telling the story of Reze and Denji. And I’m crazy abt stuff like that. Too bad I don’t know the exact terms in music theory & crap (I just watched Twoset for the general idea), but you get the gist from my og comment.

    3. @bxnkaii i also thought the same thing when i first heard it but when i randomly put it on after seeing the movie it was just hitting so hard for me

  4. I’ve checked almost all the sheets and i think this is the best.
so i was just preparing my credit card and then saw it’s fcking free.

    1. @Timtimzi or you can just crop out the sheet music literally on the screen 😭😭

    2. yeah unfortunately I didn’t download it when it came out but you can find it on sribd

    1. Definitely. This part makes me want to learn how to play the song, but the rest is also really good too.

  7. JANE DOE

  9. this has to be the best piano cover of Jane Doe i’ve ever heard and i just keep looping it since day 1 haha…thanks for your amazing work!

    1. Nah same but the only cover I like better is from canacana family, theirs is really great

    2. @swoofty1819 Thanks for sharing!
I don’t think a song sounds good just because the arrangement is super complicated. If the notes don’t flow and coordinate well together, the whole thing still ends up feeling not smooth at all and just kinda off.
But this HalcyonMusic track isn’t overly complex or anything, yet the main melody and the accompaniment mesh together so damn well. It’s got this light, upbeat, gentle vibe, every strong beat and soft note is perfectly placed, sounds super relaxing and never feels cluttered.
And the magical part is, it doesn’t even come across as monotonous at all!
That’s exactly why I love it so much and honestly think it’s the best Jane Doe cover I’ve ever heard!😆

    3. Well it might be a little more complicated but I think it just sounds better in general, I think there is a little more like enthusiasm to it or maybe its just me that likes that type of music most likely, love the arpeggios and a kind of louder beat but this is nicer for being a softer type of song

    4. @swoofty1819 Having a complex and kinda intense track is totally fine, no issue there. The key point I was making is that the main melody has to vibe properly with the chords—otherwise it sounds weird and off-putting.
The arpeggios part you said you like is actually one of the spots that felt strange to me. Honestly, whether it’s the chord choices in the arrangement, how smoothly that section flows, or even the pauses and timing between notes—it all makes the whole song feel kinda disjointed and not connected enough for me. The complexity just comes across like overdoing it, like adding feet to a snake😅
But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? Each to their own!

  10. I won’t lie but when he was doing kenshi version that was actully very good even made me surprised

  11. Literally one of the most beautiful, emotionally-charged pieces I’ve ever heard

  12. Chainsaw Man and Reze brought me here. I love this piano masterpiece! ❤️
