This soundtrack was used in the pool scene with Denji and Reze, which is one of the most important scenes in the movie.

Here is how Kensuke Ushio, the composer, described this particular track:
"For a boy, there’s probably no scene more heart-pounding than that one. It starts from this very delicate, almost tangible sense of skin, then gradually builds in intensity until—bam!—it reaches its climax as they dive into the pool. That’s the structure I aimed for.

Around the middle of the piece – right about when, in the film, Reze swims toward us through the pool – I arranged for the orchestral harmonies to shift into something influenced by modern Russian piano concertos. I wanted to capture a fragment of Reze’s upbringing there – her painful background of coming from a cold region." (translated from: )

    1. Great work!
do you think I can use your sheets as a reference for an orchestration? If I end up uploading it I’ll be sure to credit you!

    2. @asianmisfit189 If it is sufficiently different from my arrangement, then sure!

  1. This was my favourite soundtrack from the movie. Thank you so much for covering it!

  2. I’ve seen a lot of movies in my life. But I think this is the best one I’ve seen in so many years.

    1. Lord of the rings, Dune, infinity castle, dead poets society, Passion of the Christ, End of watch?

    2. @HonoraryTemplarLord of the rings is good but didn’t hit as hard. Dune was alright. Infinity castle was great but it didn’t hit me the same. Haven’t seen end of watch or passion of christ

    3. @TheEnclaveSenator recommend the last two… End of Watch and The Passion of Christ… once you do tell me what you think. I always enjoy talking about movies

    4. i think the long walk had more grief and despair, but i had to do a rewatch to fully appreciate the movie, in both sub and dub. It’s very beautiful and gripped my heart

  3. Denji be simping constantly, it’s hilarious! 😭
    A boring protagonist too.
My favorite quote is “F—K YEAH, BEAM!!”

    1. We all left the movie theater with a new phrase to trigger uncontrollable crying

    2. This moment was extremely similar to the ending in “the summer” (2023) and it brought ALL the same emotion back I got FOLDED in the theatre

  4. Seeing this movie in the theater was something else! The music was amazing!

  5. The piano part reminded me of Acrobat Silky’s To a Kinder World
Turned out to be from the same composer 😭 😭

  6. Despite having read the manga 3 times and knowing what happens between Reze and Denji, this scene animated was still the most beautiful part, ignoring what the future had in store. And the music of course made it that way. I almost wished it went differently while watching it. That’s how you know the movie was good

    1. @HalcyonMusicsame !… I knew what was coming…but the way it was animated ..it’s just mind-blowing

    2. Came for this exact comment. Took the words right out of my mouth 🥹

  7. After having read the manga multiple times before seeing the movie, the added spider and butterfly symbolism in this moment really moved me.

The spider and butterfly wasn’t in the manga, it must’ve been added to the movie for a reason. I think (this is just my interpretation of it) this symbolism holds a different message depending on the viewer. For anime only watchers, it is a hint to Reze’s deadly intent.

However after knowing her true feelings through her last actions and her muliple questions and statements after the pool scene (asking about Denji’s thoughts on living a quiet and simple life, requesting to run away with and protect Denji all while still appearing as a normal girl, her contemplating why she never killed him the moment they met and the days he came to visit)

I believe that the butterfly being caught by the spider represents her fully falling in love for him even if she just doesn’t realize it at that moment.
And just like the spider, her fate was sealed after that moment.

    1. I’ve thought that it symbolizes Denji falling for her, but that’s actually really good view too

    2. Others observed that the butterfly is a monarch butterfly, which is actually poisonous to ingest. Basically directly conforms your analysis. The spider (Reze) may have caught its prey (Denji) in her web, but was unknowingly brought down with him.

    3. man that’s crazy because i thought i was the only thinking this. Thank you for that break down.

    4. I think that the spider trapping the butterfly could be a simbolism of Makima trapping on her strings both Reze and Denji and consuming her relationship

  8. for me this was the saddest ost that it got me nearly crying thank you reze 💔
for anyone scrolling down you have to watch chainsawman denjis life is a tragedy yet its beautiful to see him strive for the meaning of love and to truly be happy recommend it 10/10!

  9. I can’t move on from this Movie. Idk it gives me a weird feeling, it felt so empty. I couldn’t describe it.

    1. Watch it a second time. The first time it broke me. It fixed me the second time

    2. Same bro finally found someone like it makes me feel like I just lost something or someone important and I just want to sob hard 😢

  10. Thinking back. With how Denji doesn’t get as emotional as most people but the first time he cries in the film is when watching that movie with Makima. The most prevalent sound in that movie was the piano being played. And then some of Denji’s most important moments with Reze have this. Goddamn I love foreshadowing!

  11. Beautiful cover. This scene didn’t feel sexual at all, it was pure magic.
    Kensuke Ushio never misses

    1. i didnt feel anything sexual from the pool either, it all felt like a fleeting dream. upon rewatch and rewatch, i just got more sad at this, knowing neither will experience this again

  12. That fortissimo part is not human. Finna have to make a contract with the piano devil.
