Call of Silence – Attack on Titan S2 OST [Piano] / Hiroyuki Sawano

→ (coming soon!).

This soundtrack from the 2nd season of Attack on Titan is another masterpiece from Hiroyuki Sawano. It played in a beautiful minute in the , where Ymir was looking at the night sky in the desert – lastly free after years of endless headache.

Particularly the moment, when the lyrics starts with "You will understand you're reborn tonight" will permanently be instilled in my memory as one of the best minutes in the Attack on Titan . The surroundings, the music, whatever simply fits together completely.

This is likewise among the so-called "unique type" where I am extending the original tune with a number of my own ideas. It can be grouped in 4 chapters:.

0:00 1. Silence.
1:47 2. Renewal.
3:21 3. ThanksAT.
5:08 4. Faraway.

I truly like setting up anime soundtracks because I have more flexibility to develop the momentum of the music in order to attain the maximum psychological effect.

For instance, how can you make the important "Rebirth" minute in 1:47 as unforgettable as possible on the ? I required to create a huge dynamic contrast initially and I set up the whole first half in a very minimalistic design. For a moment, the music even seemed to be "lost" in 1:13, revealing no clear direction.

This is all done to get ready for the moment in 1:47, where the music is literally having a "Renewal". Now the inmost bass notes are being played in fortissimo and a "sparkling" right-hand man ornament is playing along with the primary tune, accomplishing a massive orchestral sound on the .

Typically, the original tune would end in 2:50 but I extended the by duplicating the tune from 0:40. At first, I prepared to repeat the "Rebirth" melody once again in 3:21 however I felt like I required to build up the music more for the grand ending.

That's why I added the melody from ThanksAT (likewise referred to as T-KT) from Attack on Titan S3 OST in 3:21. I thought this melody fit in there incredibly and I was thinking of Ymir waiting in the night desert, helplessly watching how the time around her is passing, symbolized by the fast right hand notes in 3:21. The music continues to build up until the "Renewal" theme is returning once again in 3:55, finally giving flexibility to Ymir.

However, my individual preferred part of the arrangement is really the epilogue – "Faraway" – in 5:08. I played the melody from the start again, however this time I included a shimmering right hand ornament in 5:11. I was imagining the lovely night surroundings again where the stars are shining vibrantly in the sky.

However unfortunately, Ymir didn't get a pleased end in her story. And that's why, after flying one last time into the night sky the tune gradually descends and finally goes out in the deepest register. Attack on Titan's story can be too cruel sometimes.

Well then, that would wrap up the "behind the scenes" of this arrangement! Thank you for reading and I hope you delighted in listening to this piano plan! Anime soundtrack is actually incredible since I seem like I can unlock the complete potential of the piano. Possibly I must set up more Anime OSTs in the future. See you next time again!

Finally you’re doing an arrangement of this OST !
    Im hyped 😁

    1. Hes done ashes on the fire, youseebiggirl and vogel im kafig and ateak on titan so its not his first

    2. @sakamata2 not really, its the way Sawano names everything and its his unusual names that give the effect of the song and add to the anime

  2. “Call of silence”, my favorite OST from AOT. When Pianodeuss did his arrangement I was stunned and from the day I listened to it, it’s been my favorite anime piano arrangement since. I’ve longed for the day to see my favorite anime pianist arrangement of Call of Silence, and my wish has came true. This one was indeed a special one for me and many others. I needed this in my life. Thank You Animenz once again! 🙏🏽

    1. That’s how i got in to piano, I watched pianodeuss video and then i was blown away

  3. Dear Animenz,
Could you do more JoJo stuff? I know that project is over but I would really love to see just one more! If not it’s fine, any of your arrangements are fire. Can’t wait to attempt to learn this after your the WORLD! Yes, I will see if I can finally get some of your sheets. I can’t afford any of your sheets so I had to use pictures online to learn arrangements haha
In all seriousness, I appreciate that you’re releasing more arrangements than from the start of your channel to around 2018-2019. Hoping to see how this one is put together!

    1. I think I covered all major songs from JoJo already, do you have any suggestions left? I plan to do Jolynes theme in the future, once the full version is out

  4. I’ve been hoping for an Animenz cover of “Red Swan” and “Call of Silence since forever.
The feels attached to them are just too much to handle…

    1. I could definitely see the potential of Animenz’s arrangement of CoS of surpassing the original song since he said it’s a “special-type” arrangement! And yeah I’m hoping one day he will release a cover of “Red Swan”, one of my favourite AoT OPs.

    2. @Lachlan Le His special type arrangement did surpass the orginal.

Time to play it on repeat like a million times

  5. I love how even after Animenz says “this is the last attack on titan cover” he still continues to upload more. This shows he will keep moving forward and will tatakae till part 3

    1. I guess I just love the music from Attack on Titan too much, haha

    2. He will keep moving forward with the arrangements until AoT ends/dies and even after that. 🙂

    3. @Animenz Piano Sheets I guess we will be moving forward for quite a long time then. Even before we die, even after we die, TATAKAE

  6. “What’s so sad about becoming a Titan and saving all of humanity?”

    -Ymir

    1. “You live 13 years or less and see yourself die before your loved ones.”

  7. I have a feeling that over time, the arrangements and playing of Animenz become more and more saturated with philosophy and a certain depth of feelings. For fans of Attack on Titan, his videos are a treasure trove and an invaluable gift. And I’m one of those fans. Thank you, Animenz…

    1. @Animenz Piano Sheets yo animenz I’m 15 and have been playing the piano self thought for about 20 months (1yr 8months). Were should a pianist like me be (as in skill wise) because I have started learning some of fonzi’s songs and I’m very confused whether I’m below average, average or whatever. You may never look at this but it would really help alot🤩

    2. @Animenz Piano Sheets I agree, I have been around for a year and I see the depth in the emotion your developing and it’s honestly wonderful

  8. I teared up while watching this marvellous masterpiece. Truly emotional and such beautiful playing! 🔥

  9. Animenz, What a god you are. You can make any song into pure beauty( especially in F# minor). This arrangement reminds me of your Avid arrangement where you just use simple notes to generate a beautiful and touching atmosphere.
Never expected you will play octaves purely with three-hand melodies at 1:48, with the right hand playing clean-cut E-AB-E instead of any messy stuff.
For the second chorus starting from 3:55 for those “between the octave” notes really remind me of your Akuma no Ko arrangement, just simply graceful.
Also love the ending with the sparkling high register notes that creates another layer of beauty.
Btw, will you arrange Requiem of Silence from Re Zero?

  10. 3:57 the arpeggios starting this part really gives the vibe, such a clean performance. Love it!

  11. 3:35 Love how you added this in here! Maybe we will see a full cover in the future 😳

  12. The music of Hiroyuki Sawano is simply built different. Whenever I am arranging his music (Avid, aLIEz, ninelie, Attack on Titan OSTs, etc.) I instinctively know how to make the best use of the piano.
I think it’s the rhythmic feeling and the grand orchestral atmosphere in his music, which attracts me so much.
Perhaps that’s why whenever I am arranging Hiroyuki Sawano songs, I can fully utilize my potential as a piano arranger.

Thank you for watching! Attack on Titan OSTs are simply the best!

    1. masterclass playing 🌟🌟🌟 I was hoping you would do this piece for a while and it did not disappoint. I love you slipped in some other key themes from the season and build up to the end was incredible! Thank you for choosing to cover this piece 💜

Looking forward to your future projects as always!

    2. I agree, would love to hear you play some of his work from The Seven Deadly Sins. Like Gr Kaminari or Gong4n.

    3. Just like the „final seasons“ of attack on titan, he will continue his „final attack on titan arrangements“

    4. Oh yeah for sure. It’s one of those things that really shows given the perfect song.

  13. I thought we would need to wait till 2023 for Animenz to do AoT again, what a nice surprise!

Such a beautiful summer night, on the rooftop, watching a firework show 🎆(which finally restarted after yrs of cancelling due to COVID…), and listening to Animenz’s Call of Silence, and my eyes watered a bit when that by some miracle, the music and fireworks even synced up!

    1. Are you sure you are not secretly a protagonist of a romance anime ? 🤣

  14. I guess I know what I want to play next 😃

Thank you for bringing us these amazing arrangements Animenz!!

This arrangement reminded me of your Avid arrangement, especially with the accented bottom notes in the left hand at 4:27

    1. Not gonna lie here, I actually started to play the melody of Avid by accident while practicing Call of Silence, because the chord progression, the key and even the rhythm are almost the exact same, haha

    2. Haha, I would too as well. I’m so surprised you’re replying to me :O

  15. At long last, an EPIC rendition of this classic and poignant OST. Thanks_AT

    Favorite moments and observations
1:48 – big octaves ring in a grand first chorus. the lack of ornaments allow the call of silence to ring out between each note
2:32 – i love the decision to switch the melody and harmony between the high and mid register in the RH
3:21: epic rolling scale runs mimic the approaching footsteps of Titans
3:35 – masterful technique in combining the scale run and melody voices in the RH while letting each one sing
3:55 – COLOSSAL final chorus rife with the signature up and down arpeggios
5:10 – absolutely BEAUTIFUL sparkling high register RH ornaments
5:26 – final cadenza is remniscent of Steins Gate, especially the desending sixths!

typed this whole comment on my phone and then accidentally deleted and had to rewrite from scratch 😅

    1. > accidentally deleted and had to rewrite from scratch
worth it 👍Thanks for your comment!

  16. This piano arrangement is dope af, hope u will do many more aot osts in future that will be epic like 0sk and Zeek’s Plan

  17. Ymir got overshadowed by one of the best anime betrayal of all time but I strongly believe that Ymir deserves more recognition.

    Who else misses Ymir?

  18. Ymir : Call of Silence
    Animenz: Call of Sawano
Incredibly, Animenz has done 15 piano arrangements for “Attack on Titan” ~ Is anyone else looking forward to owning Animenz’s “Attack on Titan “digital album in the future as I am?🙏

I must say that Animenz’s OST piano arrangements always elevate the original musical imagination to the limit!
I’ve listened to 《Call of Silence》on a loop several times before seeing the full music appreciation instructions.Because Ymir is one of the few female characters I love in AoT stories. Animenz tells this unforgettable story on the piano.

00:01-01:46 The low volume and restrained chords make the main melody clean as if it were being told Ymir’s past story. But the twist of life comes at 01:47, a scene that many will never forget. Ymir is reborn under a sky full of stars, opening eyes, laughing and embracing freedom.
1:47-2:48 I really admire the arrangement of the melody of the first rebirth. Lyrics: “You will know you’re reborn tonight
Must be ragged, but I stay by your side…”

The music combined with the powerful tension of the picture in the mind, the whole heart was hit hard! The melodic strengths and weaknesses are greatly contrasted. Especially the heavy weight of the bass. The effect of the orchestra appears again. The layers of sound effects are too beautiful.

3:53~4:55 The second rebirth melody sounded after the drum beat of the left hand,
The emotions piled up to the highest point, and the arpeggios that followed the overwhelming arpeggios drowned me, and I couldn’t help but moisten my eyes!
Ymir finally bravely lived for her own choice, she took free steps. Even if she has to jump off the city wall to fight as a titan,
or have to leave with Reiner and face the risk of losing his life. Her choice is just to protect the people she loves.

5:25-6:05 The music comes to the end. No matter how much we don’t want to face it, the end comes with Ymir’s last letter to Historia :”I’m about to die, but I don’t regret it. But I actually have one more regret, and that is not being able to marry you. Ymir” Descending scales like the story has finally come to an end, The gentle arrangement is like Ymir looking up at the starry sky again, slowly saying goodbye to her life…

I accidentally wrote too long to comment, but I hope to express my admiration and love for the music created by Animenz!
PS. I hope that Sawano san will have the opportunity to see such an outstanding piano arrangement, I am serious >.< In the end, this time the arrangement feels somewhat similar to 《Avid》 mysteriously(笑)~
