Electric pianos, like the Fender Rhodes, Hohner Pianet or the Wurlitzer, are not synths or digital keyboards. They produce sound like an acoustic piano would, with a hammer, however instead of striking a string, the hammer strikes a tuned piece of metal. That noise is then gotten and sent to an amp in a comparable way as an electric guitar.

After your and Paul’s performances, I really can’t wait for Adam Neely’s take on the 55 (or even 80?) greatest bass intros of all time.
Supertramp’s “The Logical Song” would be my first suggestion – absolute classic. A bit more obscure would be “The Holy Drinker” by Steven Wilson, which I think is also a Wurlitzer.

Wow! ‘Sheep’ is my first Pink Floyd memory, and I think the reason is its tendency to feel constantly wandering, specially those tiny chords at the intro, with no full resolution in sight…you need to enjoy the rest of the song ’til Gilmour’s final phenomenal progression to find out where was it all going! PF’s rocking at its finest. Great selection, David.

I’m admittedly not great at identifying electric piano as opposed to synthesizers or other keyboards, so I can’t identify any standout tracks missing, but I’d love to see your take on this for other kinds of keyboard-based instruments! Perhaps the Hammond organ or the mellotron could be ripe for medleys, and maybe one like this for synthesizer intros.

The only thing that’s missing for me is Portishead’s Roads (1994). Just have checked it now and it’s certainly an e-piano sound, also quite a unique recognisable vibe to it, definitely deserves a spot here

logical song and dreamer by supertramp although i think bloody well right which you played is my favorite by them
animals by muse a pretty coool one
chris de burgh’s spaceman came travellings is also a great one on the rhodes and quite underrated
i guess lots of jazz fusion could makes the list but i don’t know it enough
also to mention that there are electric piano that came afterwards and heavily used in the 80s that are not the ones you mentionned
genesis used a bunch of these through the different eras and i especially love the yamaha electric grand piano CP-70
also used by vangelis in songs like rêve and memories green
tony banks used it extensevily on his first solo record and on the album Duke, but also on classics like that’s all

For a great electric piano album, check out Cookbook by John Andrews & The Yawns from 2021. It was one of my favourite albums last year. Super laid back and groovy. Song for The Gonz is like a lost Vince Guaraldi/Peanuts song.
Even if the electric piano was conceived as a more portable, giggable alternative to the piano, I think the mood and vibe it brings is entirely different to the piano
