  1. this video, especially your story at the start, really inspired me. I’m 18 and have only just started learning the guitar and piano, I often feel worried that i’ve got into it too late to pursue it properly but hearing these benefits really helps

  2. Fantastic! My wife left me after 17 years of marriage, and my kids are adults, and I’m retired. I played guitar on and off during my life and now I’m practicing with dedication every day because of the benefits you’ve mentioned. If you can haul out a guitar and play it well, you can be a badass when you’re in your eighties, which thankfully are still a long way away for me.

    1. and the feeling that, when you play you’re not alone , it’s you and it 😊

  3. Actually, I’m watching from behind my drums. You’re absolutely correct, I am going to practice and I appreciate the extra bit of motivation.

  4. well 😅 I’m 53 and all my life I was too stupid not to learn properly and to understand what I’m playing on my bass , But thanks to covid19…. you can’t go out so instead of going crazy, I started to learn all the scales and harmony and so on …. I’m much more happy 😊 😃 😀 😄

  5. Well, I agree but I’d say it’s a ‘might’ instead of a ‘will’. Or maybe I was just unlucky.

One of my problems is that for me learning to play the guitar was felt very natural, I didn’t on my own, and never had to motivate myself. Therefore I lack any feeling of accomplishment and didn’t really acknowledge the progress I made that I could apply to new skills.

  6. Can’t velieve David really escaped prison without even changing his shirt just for this video.

    1. When you put on the shirt, you automatically get stuck in an invisible mime prison, and you have to feel your way out with your hands.

  7. And the 7th less dignified improvement to your life is pulling power. It’s an interesting fact of life that once people discover you can pay an instrument rather well, your attractiveness score goes through the roof lol

  8. I’m glad you’ve had a more positive experience than I’ve had. I generally felt too isolated during practice and feeling the weight of expectation that I had to do it from my parents gets in the way. I do recall moments where the mental benefits really left an impression on me, and I enjoyed playing in the orchestra as a team, but it always felt more like an obligation than something to savor, and composition just felt too demanding to learn on my own and I found it too difficult to actually save what I’m composing and keep track of it, since it seems like all DAWs are incredibly counterintuitive for me. As of late, I think photography is letting me reap the mental and social benefits you’ve outlined, and I’m anticipating the financial benefit will come along soon enough. Thank you for sharing your enjoyment of music. Maybe I’ll feel the same way later in my life.

  9. I find playing music a very effective way to reduce and manage stress. Just a great mental health tool.
