  1. i stopped trying to learn because the pegs would always slip no matter what i tried. I do want to try again . now i have screw lock pegs which are nice , the only thing is they are much heavier.

  2. I actually managed to learn bit by bit from your vids and practice session alone.
6 weeks in and I’m comfortable with the 2nd finger exercises already, so thank you a lots

  3. Hi Allison – To answer your question: “Can you learn the violin without a real teacher?” The answer is absolutely! At least it was for me. I learned to play the violin on my own as an adult. That is to say, I already knew how to read music in the treble clef. I acquired a fingering chart for the violin, a teach yourself violin book, I watched a few YouTube videos (such as yours), and along with a strong desire, coupled with unrelenting perseverance, I taught myself to play the violin. In fact, I’m self-taught with all of my musical instruments – with the exception of the Bb trumpet which I learned to play in school beginning with the 6th grade.

  4. Such valuable advice. A teacher would be great but I do love your videos.

  5. I’m learning just off your lessons. I do play classical guitar and that’s helped. I have limited time and have valued the structure your course provides. I do acknowledge that a teacher guiding on areas I need to improve on would be very valuable.

  6. I’m teaching myself with a good book an CD that comes with it but I have been asking myself the same thing. Am I going to need a teacher. I do wish I had someone to structure my lessons a bit and most of all give some feedback back on good and bad.

  7. I had a teacher for over 2 years but she’s moved and now I can’t find a replacement near enough and I don’t want online teaching. Any suggestions?

    1. See if there is a symphony close by contact them and ask for a teacher contact. Many violinist in a symphony teach on the side.

  8. There is no teacher in my area so I am relying on you for guidance. I do watch the violinist in my church orchestra and try to copy them. My uncle was an extremely talented self taught fiddle player. He couldn’t read music but played by ear magnificently!

  9. Thank you soo much I am gonna start my violin journey from June , hopefully I enjoy this journey ❤️

  10. All the teachers I’ve seen so far are a bit pricey so I’m trying to learn on my own. I know it’ll be more difficult but I’m ready for this

  11. just started my violin journey with ur lessons, appreciate you very much!

  12. I’ve never played violin and just purcahsed a Yamaha electric violin and am anxious to learn. Will these lessons work the same with an electric violin?

  13. I have been learning violin for about 14 months now, starting at age 74.
I started with a teacher but also was given a recommendation to your videos which I subscribed to. My teacher moved and I have another teacher and have a fortnightly lesson.
Half an hour is really not long enough but lessons are expensive. At the moment my new teacher is happy to let me work through Song Book 1 and she helps where I need help and we also do scales. I try to pick up on what she has mentioned and then I go back to your videos for more help eg recently my teacher was talking about straighter bowing so I find a video of yours and practice. Without your videos I would be way behind but I find them exactly what I need. I am making steady progress. I practice every day and I am very grateful for your excellent work and my teacher’s help. I am working through Song Book 1 and nearly at the end, my teacher makes me do it properly and makes sure I am playing in tune.
I have done the work book 2 lessons.
One is never too old to learn!
I spend such a lot of time listening to your videos and always feel very thankful for your teaching.
