How to Practise Violin Without Getting Overwhelmed

Thanks Alisonā¤ļø
These tips here are absolutely true. First the work, then the funā¤ļø
good to see you – thanks
I’ve been following your violin program for a year now and have enjoyed the process. Oddly enough, my practice structure came together once you introduced scales. I found that doing 20 mins of scales/arpeggios, followed by focused practice on pieces was a good system for me. And then I always ended on something that I enjoyed — “dessert” as you say. So this video really resonates with me. What you say is true!
Oh my God just the video I was looking for. As if you heard me šš. Thank you
I love the way when practice is becoming fun…
You are my She-ro! Your videos mean everything to me! I’m 60, playing for 1 year, I watch so many videos that say do this, do that; so I do scales, bowing practice, trills, Sevcik fingering, double stop practice, etudes, try to learn 3rd position, OMG! LOL, thank you for your guidance. You are wonderful teacher!
I just started taking lessons again. I’m still in Suzuki 1. I used to not practice when I used to take lessons. I practice now. I start with scales and bowing. Then I go to the piece I’m working on. I may jump to an easier piece if I’m getting frustrated so I can enjoy it without pressure. My lessons on the other hand are chaotic and jump around in 4 different books in a one-hour time slot with no clear sign of advancing through any of the books.
Do you have a contact so that I can see if you do online lessons? I’m looking for someone who has a good understanding of how to teach, and it seems that you do. Very interested in some online lessons. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your videos
Hello Alison, I recently came back on playing the violin, I used to watch your videos 9 or 10 years ago, I just wanted to say thanks for these wonderful tutorials and it’s really nice to see that you still enjoy teaching and helping us with these videos. Wish you all the best šā¤ā¤
Hello Alison,
I studied the violin in college around 15 years ago for a year. I am recently picking it back up again because I need a displayable talent for auditions. What advice do you have for someone who isn’t a beginner, but isn’t that advanced?
Thanks Alison,
Iāve been following your channel for two years and am working on the song book one and simply romantic song book. I just started keeping a music journal with the long-term goal of learning the twenty songs in the above mentioned books. A journal is a good was to record progress, accomplishments, and figure out what needs more work. I keep it simple. For example, notes on warmup scales and finger exercises, what songs I worked on and the song sections that are more difficult than others, for me, and a conclusion that contains goals for the next practice session.
Great idea to end with something fun!
