    1. @DavidBennettPiano Mine too, it’s my favorite Pepper’s song, but also one of my most favorite of all time.

    1. I kept learning it until I heard Snow.

I will revisit it after I learn Snow..

I will never revisit it. 😫🤣

    2. @h0nkyJ once you’ll get the trick in how to economic pick the riff just need to keep on practicing from lower bpm and growing slowly.

Can’t Stop has a Funky riff hard to play too.

  1. Great video and surprising. Love the fact that his mom and friends did the choir, makes is even more personal

  2. David is a hell of a musician, always learn something through his videos. Thank you for your work, mr Bennett.

  3. Great video David! I’m enjoying seeing other instruments being incorporated into the channel; you’re great with the guitar too! While I’ve discovered other RHCP songs since, it always comes back to this one for me.

  4. Im suprised you didnt mention the andy warholl by david bowie influence. Frusciante mentioned in some interviews that the intro from under the bridge takes inspiration from the bowie song. Also, the ending of the song reminds me of the ending of stairway to heaven, and in the early 90s frusciante sometimes played a bit of the stairway solo over the end of under the bridge, maybe that is another influence ? Thanks for the video man!

    1. @Graciefanofalaskavioletyou sure ? Do you know what part of that song was “used” by john ? Kind regards 🙂

    2. A little bit. The progressions are slightly different even though it’s the same basic a/g/f. It’s more like castles made of sand of anything.

    3. @rickdaniels1000 very true:) but there is a clip on youtube where john plays the solo at the end of under the bridge. I think you can find it when searching “stairway under the bridge” or something like that. He might have taken some inspiration who knows. (But indeed its just a very standard progression tho)

    4. @Graciefanofalaskavioletnah it’s Andy Warhol. The ripped off part is the climb down from D major to F# major in the intro. In the Bowie song there’s quite a similar walk down on the notes

  5. That his mum’s church friends sang the choir part and absolutely nailed it is my favorite new fact. I will never hear it the same again ❤

    1. I wonder if Anthony took his chance to hit on one of the choir moms? 😄

  6. If you rip off one person, that’s ripping of one person. If you rip off two people, that’s ripping off two people. If you rip off three people, now that’s inspiration.

    1. The puppy was a dog… But the industry, my friends… That was a revolution

    2. If you have to rip off three people it means you have no ideas of your own…

  7. That’s exactly how every influence should be digested to be used in a new opus.

  8. Although he mentioned Bold Love as a reference, it was more a “Little Wing” atmosphere. He mentions that on the video that you showed of his interview. Same technique used in Pearl’s Jam “Yellow Ledbetter”

Great video! As usual. I’ve been improving my songwriting a lot, thanks to your videos.

    Thank you very much!

  9. Frusciante’s mum and her friends is my favourite bit. I never knew that

    1. It’s unreasonable how beautiful his sound on the guitar is for someone who just breaks it out like some afterthought to stick on top of his channel.

Quit hogging all the talent! 🤣

    1. Me too! Just a shame that none of the songs that RHCP recorded during their time with Josh are getting played live anymore- I wonder if Frusciante has anything to do with that?

    2. @whyisntitpossible404I like One Hot Minute more, but they don’t promote it because JF isn’t there.

    3. @Liam123-r8o they’re mediocre with him as well and have been for decades

  10. This song made me a guitar player in high school. I set out to play the song that nobody else could, and succeeded. This song taught me so much: finger picking, funk voicing, major seven chords, tone, that songs can shift keys. One of the great songs of all time.

    1. Same I learned it in high school after hearing all saints

    2. Definitely one of the great songs of all time. Always loved to hear. Learned how to play it in my thirties. Played it so many times I got sick of it lol. One of the great tunes of all time !!! And you’re right about how much this song can teach a guitar player! Cheers mate

  11. idea to add choir in the ending part of that sobg is genius. that part hits like a ten ton hammer

    1. They used a choir a lot on BSSM album. Really became their thing at the time. I think thats peak RHCP.

    2. @ifwecouldvoteyou sure about that? I’ve listened to that album hundreds of times, I can’t think of another song with a choir arrangement

    3. @Beefroddmy bad, they sing in a choral way on a few tracks, but not with a choir. I was thinking of “knock me down” , but thats not on BSSM.

  12. There is also a 5th song that Frusciante “ripped off” for Under The Bridge… “Andy Warhol” by David Bowie. I did make a short demonstrating this however it has now been blocked for copyright 😂😅

    1. the intro’s feel and chords are gimme shelter (emajor chord) backwards yo

    2. video unavailable… Was this disproven?

Edit: not disproven, video just removed for copyright

    3. Not to mention they nicked Tom Petty’s last dance for Mary Jane and stuck it in Dani California. Tbf Tom laughed it off, RIP legend

    4. That’s exacly what I was going to say when I didn’t see David in the Album Art in the intro. I loved John’s explanation of the intro from 2001.
