  1. Fantastic reproduction of one of my favorite songs! Even the vocals sound just like Jim Morrison.

  2. Oh wow, I had just watched your “I am the Walrus” recreation about 45 minutes ago. I had a question regarding the software you use, but I guess it’d be better to copy it here now. Give me a second…

Edit: What software are you using for midis? Is it available on Windows? I’m tired of using LMMS which was the only free software I could find and am ready to move on to paid software. Also where do you get your instrument plugins?

  3. Ray Manzarek in an interview (on YT: “RAY MANZAREK-RIDERS ON THE STORM) said that Jerry Scheff said the baseline was impossible to play on the bass guitar. But David has just proved it is not all that difficult.

    1. yeah I remember having seen that interview that… not sure if Ray had to rearrange the initial vs of the bass line into the one actually played in the rcord

    2. Sorry I repeated the same comment after you haha, interested in that same thing. He made the bass seem simple here

  4. I remember an interview where Ray said the bass part had some seriously complex finger requirements (sorry I don’t know the right words there) but you seem to just be doing a simple pass and not turning your hand over on the bass. Did they simplify for Schiff to play or did you do some easier inversion? Sounds fantastic! You are so talented.

    1. Yeah, that interview is in YouTube, just search for Ray Manzarek and Riders of the Storm

  5. I heard this when it came out. I was 13, and I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg in bed at night. I’d listen under my pillow so my parents wouldn’t hear it and come in and switch it off. When I heard this in a darkened room, it was very exciting and just a little bit scary.

    1. I remember hearing it when I was very young as well, and immediately falling in love with it despite it being pretty spooky. I’d never heard anything quite like it before (and frankly haven’t ever since.)

  6. Great job. There’s not much in music that you can’t do dude!

  7. The Doors were one of my favorite bands and this song was mesmerizing. And my daughter fell in love with them, and I am in heaven.
    What a great effort.
    Merci beaucoup.

  8. I had a feeling you loved The Doors… one of my favorite bands. I bought a keyboard because of this song too… Still havent learned it all tho haha

  9. Astounding, David. The iconic solo of rock and roll keyboards. You’ve lived up to your last name.

Ray Manzarek was the GOAT on Riders, the heavyweight champion of the world. And I’ve come to greatly respect the way Robbie Krieger wingmans him throughout the track. David is right, the guitar is masterful understatement. Always leaving center stage to Manzarek, just adding a touch here, a nuance there, a soft strum and a pick here and there. Just enough to greatly enrich the whole experience.

  10. Ray may be my fav keyboard player ever, Riders is definetly my fav Doors track, and THIS just became my favorite tribute to that track.
Congratulations David, this is both impressive and special, I´m glad i´ve came across this channel

  11. Excelent job David! This is one of the most iconic songs of The Doors, which simplicity of the bass line is a pedal that works as foundation for the melody and other instruments to lay on.

  12. I was just jamming this song with my friend the other day and we thought of covering it live – how convenient that you made this.

  13. You know you’re witnessing talent when they make a masterpiece seem so easy… Great job!

  14. You totally nailed that. The vocals were great as well. Have you thought of doing a track from pink Floyd DSOTM for the anniversary of that album?

  15. I was thinking about that Ray interview throughout your performance… And when I saw it at the end, it just made the entire video perfect… a perfect tribute indeed.

  16. Wow, that’s well done. How do you avoid a copyright strike when it’s that close?
