Im 2 years in, hardest part is going from say 1 or 2 fingers to 3 on separate strings, i didnt read music either so had to learn both violin and reading.
Your doggies are so cute! I love that they’re playing in the background! lol
Anyway, I’ve been playing the violin for like, two years at this point. It’s discouraging sometimes because I see videos of these 3-year-olds absolutely SHREDDING on the violin. These children probably come from money and have been playing since they were infants. I grew up poor, so learning an instrument was a luxury.
Even still, I’m drawn to the violin because I love how beautiful it sounds. I knew it would be hard, but I’m definitely up to the challenge!
I’ve gotta pick my violin up and start practicing again see if I can still do the fingering after breaking my hand over a year ago.
Thank you for this 🙏🏾
I needed to hear this video. Thank you very much. I’m 61 and I just picked up a violin about 5 months ago. I practice daily for hours. My teacher says I’m doing well but I feel like my tone is awful. Thank you for the encouragement.
those dogs outside (you actually pointed at them) are really cute
Listen critically but with kindness ☝🏼
As an adult learner, a couple years in, and frustrated that I’m not a Jascha Heifetz;
I thank you for this video!
The hardest thing to learn hasn’t even been the technique, but how to be patient and forgiving with myself.
It really does feel like being a child learning how to walk.
But the fulfillment makes it all worth while.
Vibrato and scales, because my ear is not trained well enough to find the right note. A REALLY really slow scale to play along with would be an awesome help.
Very encouraging words. Thank you. You touched on something which seems so obvious but I’ve ignored…. Focus on bow control and fingering notes separately. One tends to rush too quickly (frustratingly) to play a music piece. Thanks again. (Adult beginner 6-7 months).
Hahaha I literally said this is like patting my head and rubbing my belly at the same time to my tutor last week! I’ve been learning for a couple of months now and it doesn’t feel like I’ve gotten much better, but I like learning because I’m still excited about being able to play like the people I see and hear in videos one day, as long as I keep at it
Hello, I want to learn violin, I recently bought since 3months, I don’t have a tutor yet and I don’t know how to set it up first.pls help 😊
Thank you for this information from a 55yr beginner.
The screeching sound has stopped me in my tracks more than once. If this is normal early on I am so grateful to know it. I will get back to work asap. Thanks.
Thank you for this , I also love your dogs in the background
You are amazing, thank you! I am 60, and have been playing for 9 months…..originally played when I was 15, self taught, with no internet, and I did everything wrong. My mother, a piano teacher, taught me piano when I was 4. I struggle with bow bouncing squeaking AND Not knowing how to bow a ton of notes together in a fast piece.
I am so grateful for you and your kind, generous videos!
This video was good timing.
I’ve been playing 3 different short melodies lately and getting to the point where I can play them without having to think about my left hand, so it allows me to focus on making better sound and I’m honestly getting a little frustrated. It’s not awful but I know my sound should be getting better. The more I play in a session the worse it gets, then I start thinking my violin is out of tune and I start messing with that, then I start thinking I need rosin, then I start thinking have rosin build up on my strings or bow. usually if I take a short rest I get back to normal but still not better.
I started learning with you at the beginning of last year. Since then, I have joined two folk orchestras and a string ensemble, and I have started lessons with a local teacher too, so she can see what I’m doing wrong etc. I still sound the way you would expect after such a short time, but joining groups and being supported by really good and experienced musicians has given me a massive push. I even lock myself in the bathroom with the mute on at night to get more practise in, and I regularly go way out of my comfort zone when I play at Ceilidhs, concerts, training workshops or even last year at Sidmouth Folk Festival. I’m terrified to play in front of others and I hate seeing or hearing myself in videos, but I’m forcing myself to appreciate the learning curve and how far I have come in a relatively short time. As a result, I can say that the more I play and the more I improve, the more I love it. Thank you for your fantastic violin course (I bought all 3 at the beginning), they have put me on an amazing journey. ❤
love your channel, whats more fun is seeing your little dogs playing in the background to this video
I use the Don’t Fret sticker. I had tape but it always got pushed out of place.
The hardest aspect of violin playing for me is probably bowing. I need to be more open with it. I get too scrunched up. Also, after maybe thirty minutes I start to feel the weight of the bow, and my hand gets tired.
