  1. Was pushing myself to play violin (at grade 2 now), then i saw music theory… WELP

  2. I enjoy your videos so much and I learn a lot about the piano and violin. I think you so much for making the videos. I’m having a problem right now with my violin. I can’t tune it properly. The D string keeps turning to a G and I can’t figure out how to remedy it. I do not have a teacher right now, so I have no one else to help me. If I cannot get it fixed right away, will it hurt the violin if I still practice on it?

    1. You might need to use some peg paste to get the peg to stay – and when tuning, slighty and GENTLY push the peg inwards rather than just turning it – push in at the same time and that will help the peg to stay as the hole is slightly tapered.

  3. You’ve got to ‘want’ to play the violin😊. If you have that want or need, then you will stick at it but if your interest is not serious, then you will be inpatient and maybe feel overwhelmed? Just ‘my’ opinion😊

  4. I just got my third fiddle and I’m a beginner but my biggest problem with a fiddle is not that i can’t learn it but those pegs slipping constantly.but before I go any further I found a cure to replace those with pegs that hopefully will cure The problem expensive hopefully worth it

  5. Give up playing the violin? I shall not flag or fail. I shall go on to the end. I shall play my violin on the seas and oceans. I shall play my violin with growing confidence and strength in the air. I shall defend my violin playing whatever the cost may be. I shall play my violin on the beaches, I shall play my violin on the landing grounds, I shall play my violin in the fields and in the streets. I shall play my violin in the hills. I shall never surrender!

  6. Really disappointed you not only not answered my question, but also made the video private… oh well…

    1. Im sorry if i missed your question. I answer every single question I see on my videos, but on the odd occasion, some do slip through the net for whatever reason. If you ask again, I’ll reply 🙂

    2. @TheOnlineViolinTutor It was basically about recommendations for violins, and why a long time ago you recommended cecilio/mendinis, yet on the video I asked you were saying you only recommend fiddlerman and “all amazon ones are garbage”. (and that video is now unseeable/private)

    3. Ok, I’m not sure which review is private now, but I’ll answer your question regardless;

Years ago, I recommended Cecilio/Mendini violins, and I stand by those reviews as they reflected my honest thoughts at the time. However, that was over a decade ago. The company had sent me nearly their entire collection for review, which I thoroughly tested.

Fast forward a few years, and I had the opportunity to review Fiddlerman violins. Meanwhile, Cecilio had either changed hands or undergone some internal shift, resulting in a significant decline in quality. Their violins became inconsistent and subpar—nothing like the ones I originally reviewed. Because of this, I no longer personally recommend them.

On the other hand, Fiddlerman violins have consistently impressed me. They offer instruments for every budget and tonal preference, and their customer support is excellent—something you rarely find elsewhere.

Lastly, all Amazon violins are, frankly, garbage. You won’t find anything of real quality there because reputable brands (like Fiddlerman) don’t sell on Amazon. If your budget is minimal, it’s understandable to start with something cheap, but be aware that poorly made violins can hinder your learning experience. Many budget violins from Amazon are so badly constructed that they create unnecessary challenges, making learning more frustrating than it should be. This can turn into a false economy, as a slightly better instrument would save you time and effort in the long run.

I don’t mean to offend anyone who owns a cheap violin from Amazon, but I want to be honest—these instruments come with so many issues that they often make learning harder than it needs to be.

I hope that answers your question and if you have any more, im happy to answer, Alison 🙂

    4. @TheOnlineViolinTutor Ok. Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! I don’t really see the Cecilio’s a lot on Amazon anymore. Reason I originally asked was I saw a couple of new/open box ones still on ebay for cheap, and wondered if maybe they were from back then when they were at least decent to start out at least… (Some CVN-300s for example).

  7. I’m so glad you are back Alison! You helped me so much when I was self teaching myself 4 years ago. Fast forward to now I’m a student at a music school and I’m learning Mozart Concerto No. 5 and Vivaldi’s Winter! My current aspiration is to be a violin teacher and gig musician. Thanks for all you do 😀

  8. Hi Alison, I just purchased your learn bundle program, you’re brilliant… question, I have a samuel eastman vl100 violin. Is that comparable to the Fiddlerman violin? Should I swap it out? thoughts? I’m relearning to play after a 30 year hiatus

    1. Fab – you’re going be off and away in literally no time!
I don’t know anything about Eastmans to be honest, so I cant really comment, but they are just basic, student violins, from what i understand.
If you can get a FM violin, then I say get one of those as you have the pick of the bunch then, based on your budget and really, any tone, sound or flavour you want – he’ll have one to accomodate you!
If you ask him/them, they will advise you also. And you know you’re not getting bog standard factory violins either as these have been more carefully curated.
Mention my name, and hell look after you 😉
