Sheet Music: Coming quickly!
The much awaited anime of Chainsaw Man is lastly airing this season! And it begins with a banger of a song: "SETTLE BACK" from Kenshi Yonezu – absolutely among the catchiest songs I have heard in a while.
Not only does "SIT BACK" has a crazy amount of key modifications, it also has among the most epic state of mind changes I have ever heard. The music in 1:41 suddenly modifications from entirely "dark and disorderly" into exceptionally "brilliant and enthusiastic" and for a brief minute, I seemed like I was strolling in musical heaven. Incredible moment.
① Chainsaw and a fist … on the piano?
Did you observe the left hand glissando at the very beginning in 0:01? I really tried to mimic the noise of a Chainsaw, similar to the original tune. Similarly, this arrangement likewise ends with a glissando once again in 3:08, bringing the song to a cycle.
I likewise utilized my fist in 2:06 for the first time to hammer down the chord for optimum dynamic power. However needless to say, you shouldn't overdo it otherwise the strings of the piano may break, haha.
② Chaos in the rhythm
The most hard part to set up was really the "努力 ・ 未来 ・ A STUNNING STAR" in the beginning, since there are multiple rhythms overlapping with each other. On top of that, I likewise used octaves in the left hand because I wished to produce a punchy bass line for this plan. I also utilized a great deal of staccato during the chorus in 0:51 to additional accentuate the chaotic environment of the tune.
③ The string orchestra appears!

I attempted to mirror it on the piano as well by letting the right hand play an additional layer of music in 1:41 to sound like strings from a orchestra. This is also one of the rare cases where the left hand has the ability to play both the melody and the bass at the very same time (with only minimal assistance from the right hand), resulting in an almost "perfect" 3 hand method.

You can easily use too much force and the piano is doing a painful “DWAAAAAAANG” sound. (happened in an earlier take of my recording)

I really love the contrast in 1:41 between the left hand main melody and the high pitch arpeggios, it really gives a mysterious feeling like the story plot in Chainsaw Man. It’s indeed a “perfect” three hand melody. Overall, it’s so good that seems like two chainsaws playing the piano.
When I first listened to the original song, I was also completely stunned by the huge change of atmosphere in 1:41.
Such a huge contrast is seldom heard in an anime opening song. I love it.

《Chainsaw Man》 is really the most crazy and creative anime work I’ve seen this year! I’ve heard several versions of the piano arrangement, but only Animenz’s version is cool and crazy enough!
Looks like it’s time again for the (bi-annual?) “great piano cover battle” again on YouTube, haha.
I think the last time a song has gathered that much attention was probably “Mixed Nut” from Spy X Family.

This arrangement amazingly displayed the chaotic aspect of the original song, especially with the fist technique at 2:06 as well as giving us a magical toned down, yet excitingly rhythmic main theme like the original in an even more invigorating way at 2:14
I love experimenting with rhythmic variations and 2:14 is also one of my favorite parts!
It feels so satisfying to hammer those left hand bass octaves, haha
@Animenz Piano Sheets Your arrangements always unpredictable. I be like WTH at the first time I watched this video cuz It didn’t sound like what I always heard before, however it end up with me replay this video for 5 times.
Animenz x Chainsaw man OP, of course we all expected it would be hype!! However as soon as the first few notes hits, this still managed to surprise me: it’s something different.
Just like Pochita is the heart of Denji, beyond all that crazy rhythm & technique, this arrangement has a very “naughty” touch to it, from the chosen of music scale, to the bounce of melody, to playing with fist…feels really whimsical, or even humous, that makes me laugh heartily 😀
I feel this song has a very “dark” color with all those chaotic rhythms and crazily fast key changes. Therefore most of the melody in this piano arrangement is also being played in the lower register of the piano.
So yeah, the song can also be interpreted as “naughty”, as you have said above, haha

My favorite part must be the first phrase of the second verse at 1:23 along with the ‘naughty response’ from one octave higher(1:26).
That higher ‘response’ feels like a ‘demon’s whisper’ to me, it’s too bad that it seems impossible to sustain that F in any way.
In constrast, at 0:20 you are able to sustain the F in the first verse with your pinky, where the ‘response’ came from one octave lower(0:22).
Also want to mention that the left hand chromatic octave at 2:32 is SO EPIC!!
Lastly, I like the contrast between 2:50 the staccato bass line and 2:54 with heavy pedal.
Oh, I found that the glissando are identical at 0:00 and 3:08, haha
So happy to see you back!! This was an absolute banger, as expected for the Chainsaw Man OP! So bouncy, so catchy, I’m straight up having trouble stopping the video midway to catch the standout-bits’ timestamps, I just want to keep vibing with the music LOL
