How to Practise Violin When You Can’t Be Bothered

We all have days where we simply can not be bothered, and this video has to do with what to do on those days so you do not lose momentum. I talk about how to make practice smaller, simpler, and more reasonable, instead of doing nothing and letting the space grow.

  1. This was really really helpful. I really appreciate it. I haven’t been able to practice for weeks!!! 😢

  2. SO relatable right now! 😰
    Thank you!
Even itty bitty baby steps can take you along the journey.

  3. Motivation is key when it comes to playing violin 🎻 these videos are so helpful 🙏

  4. Excellent advice I’m raising grandchildren and have very little time thank you for the new ideas on how to find time that is basically stress-free time…..

  5. I’d rather do 15 minutes than nothing at all. If I’m tired, I’ll play an easy fiddle tune, not a challenging classical piece. That revitalizes me.

  6. hi Alison. iv recently taken up the violin again which i started 6 years ago with your books. had a 3 year break. finding short practice sessions multiple times a day much better (5 -15 mins). renting at the minute and testing some gligas at the end of the month to potentially buy as love the sound they make. find it similar to working out just a habit mindset and once you start even say just a minute it normally turns out a bit longer.
    thank you
    Dean

  7. Hi Allison – I try to get in at least two hours of practice per session. I have thousands of pieces of sheet music and in many genres to keep me entertained. Anything less than two hours of practice is not worth my while. BTW: To me, two hours of practice can feel like 30 minutes.

  8. Great advice as I haven’t played for 6 months and every time I walk past my fiddle I feel guilty. Will try this x

  9. I found this video very helpful. I tend to skip days playing the piano. Short sessions to keep the momentum going sounds much more sensible.
    Many thanks.

  10. Very honest, I am a skipper when I’m not in the mood for playing… 🫣 I really hate it but sometimes I can’t motivate myself… And days become weeks… Feeling a bit ashamed!

  11. Hi I just started watching your violin course, it’s really helpful.

Well it seems like very busy days either on study or working and fortunately turns out to be like procrastination 😂😂. I experienced this last week, missed like 3 to 4 days without practice and trust me, hell it sucks.

But I’m back for consistency now and my daily practice is 1 hour daily, 30 mins morning and evening. And thank for your course once again it’s really helpful.

  12. Have a few days like that once in a while. Most days I put in a little practice. Some days I practice a few hours a day.
I have three instruments I play. Have to take on two at a time. Every now and then I focus on just one. I love playing and it does relax me.

  13. Does your course Violin 1-3 teaches vibrato, and different kinds of bowing techniques?
