Sometimes when the new turns are old, it’s easy to do that. Unfortunately, but if you just put it down for a minute and pick it back up, it’s so much more better.
I find my weak sight reading is limiting, particularly in fast passages and with double stops. I had an even worse problem when I tried to learn the piano because there is music for both hands and many chords and eventually I gave up as the only way I could play pieces was from memory. I’ve tried lots of things to improve but I think it’s equivalent to dyslexia but with musical notes rather than words.
I’m a beginner too, and sometimes i feel like giving up. Thank you

I’m an italian student of your course, since 2 months. I complete the 8th lesson now. I practise every day with your exercise sheet music(First and second finger), i’m Happy of My left hand, but…. My bow tecniche Is not not not good. I look your dedicated video in the corse, and look and look… But…My bow, go over…After 20/30minutes of practise. What can i do?
Another question: I buy new student bow, i put the Rosin, but the bow don’t greep, and don’t play…. What can i do?

Hi, so have you tried just playing or moving the bow up and down (playing open strings) in front of a mirror?
You first need to ‘see’ where the bow needs to go in order to stay straight – and then you need to ‘feel’ where it goes.
Third, you need (well, must really) to learn, feel and be conscious of where your arm is at ALL times when it comes to actually playing from the sheet music etc.
It can be a battle, but thats part and parcel of learning the violin and has to be done or else you’ll not get past this stage.
I strongly suggest playing in front of a mirror – just play open strings – nothing important so you can see the bow without worrying what the fingers need to do, then start not looking at the mirror and try to see out the corner of your eye if your bow is moving straight, then consciously start to learn and feel where the arm needs to go in order to pull the bow straight when moving up and down.
Try that and let me know how you get on 🙂

I’ll be honest and say that my progress isn’t nearly as great as it could have been. And it didn’t really help after it only occurred to me a few days ago that it will be 4 years of me playing the violin as I started in April 2021. 😅 I think I lost motivation at some point during 2023 but yeah. I am still learning and playing pieces in 1st position and 😐 3rd position is still a challenge.

I’ve been playing bagpipes 30 years and it takes a while to get used to people watching you play and other things the main thing give yourself time to get used to it one gig at a time
